From Cannes to CinefestOZ

The festival’s jam-packed six-day program for 2023 showcases everything there is to love about Australian film, as well as some of the region’s best food and wine through a series of glittering red-carpet events and unique in-conversation dining experiences with the film makers. Early Bird tickets are now available, with the full program launching 20 July 2023.

At the heart of the festival is the coveted CinefestOZ Film Prize which recognises excellence in Australian film and bestows Australia’s largest film prize ($100,000AUD).  In the running this year is Bromley: Light After Dark, which will have its World Premiere at the Festival, as well as Monolith, Shayda, and The Rooster, which will have their WA premieres.

According to CinefestOZ CEO Cassandra Jordan, the 2023 finalists highlight the diversity and complexity of storytelling at this year’s festival.

“These films all explore personal identity through unique, clever and compelling storytelling and filmmaking,” Jordan said. “It’s what made them the standouts from this year’s submissions for Film Prize.”

Recognising excellence in filmmaking from an Australian feature film or feature-length documentary, the Film Prize Finalists’ films will be reviewed by a Jury of film industry experts as part of each film’s premiere public screening.

Ahead of each Film Prize premiere, filmmakers and attending talent will walk the red carpet, and then post screening enjoy an after-party celebration. Each Film Prize film or documentary is also paired with a unique ‘In Conversation Dining Experience’, where the filmmakers share with guests how they brought their projects to life, while enjoying sensational food at some of the Margaret River Region’s best restaurants.

The festival also continues to diversify with the return of ‘Cinesnaps’, the dedicated schools’ program, free Community Days with IndigifestOZ – a showcase Aboriginal culture and filmmakers, free Community Screenings and the respected Industry Program. Make sure to check out the full program.
