Walk Talk Taste Tour Margaret River

There are plenty of incredible things to do after dark – whether you’re after a food and wine adventure, an evening dive off Busselton Jetty, or a family bushwalk in search of adorable local wildlife.

Here’s our list of the best things to do at night in the Margaret River Region.

Sunset flight on a helicopter

There’s nothing quite like taking in the extraordinary beauty of the South West from the sky. Scenic Helicopters and KAS Helicopters are both well-respected operators in the region. They offer breath taking sunset flights, which take in the magnificent cape, coastline and national parks. Flight itineraries can be customised, or let your experienced pilot show you what the Margaret River Region has to offer.

Nocturnal Animal Tour with South West Eco Discoveries

Say hello to native bush critters who love the dark – like the woylie, a super cute nocturnal animal affectionately known as the ‘kung fu roo’. This two-hour family-friendly adventure happens in a private conservation sanctuary, in Yelverton Brook bushland where woylies and other wildlife like to play. You’ll take a short journey through the bush to a viewing site, where you can spot woylies under the stars, while enjoying billy bush tea (or milo) and biscuits.

Sunset Wine Experiences

Celebrate all there is to love about wine in the Margaret River Region with a wine tour that starts in the afternoon and continues into the magnificent sunset.

The personalised and private wine tour with Forage Safaris departs at 3pm, giving you the time to check into your hotel from 2pm and be on a tour within the hour. You’ll be picked up from your accommodation and taken to some of the most unique wineries in the region, experiencing activities such as vineyard walks, food pairings and sensory garden walks. Finish off with a delicious platter picnic at a vineyard, showcasing local producers.

Another great option is to watch the sun set over the vines with a private after-hours tasting at Passel Estate. After the guided tasting, enjoy a glass of your favourite Passel Estate wine alongside a platter of local, artisanal cheeses. Plus, the experience includes a voucher towards a bottle of wine and complimentary chocolate bonbons to take home.

Catch a show at Margaret River Heart - Nala Bardip Mia

There are plenty of incredible shows to check out at the Margaret River Heart – Nala Bardip Mia, a meeting place known for hosting some of the best festivals, live music and comedy acts. There’s also a big screen, where you can check out new release flicks in the comfort of a state-of-the-art cinema, while enjoying delicious snacks from the confectionary bar.

Dance the night away

Down South is well-known for attracting some of the most legendary touring acts around, not to mention talent homegrown in the region. Friday night is a great time to check out a band at Settlers Tavern in Margaret River, or walk on over to The River Hotel, where you can dance the night away in their epic outdoor beer garden. Clancy’s Fish Pub in Dunsborough is also a great spot to catch a band, and they know how to put on a rollicking good time.

Sail into the sunset

We’ve mentioned catching the sunset from the sky and the earth, but what about from the water?

If this isn’t romance 101, we don’t know what is… Think yacht, crystal clear waters, a little sparkly in your glass and perhaps a dolphin or two. Check out Sailing Charters WA and Adventure Sailing for their sunset and twilight cruises to set sail.

Busselton Jetty at night

If you fancy a little evening stroll, the 1.8km long Busselton Jetty is open all evening and glorious as the sun goes down (please note that the final 150m is only open during the Underwater Observatory opening hours). If you prefer to take the Jetty Train, a local tip is to book the final train of the day to catch the last of the golden rays in Geographe Bay. Finish off with fish and chips, an ice cream, or a refreshing beverage at the foreshore.

Bar Crawl

The region loves its many small (and okay, slightly bigger too) bars with great options to wet the whistle, and what better way to experience them all than on a bar crawl?

In Margaret River, pop in for a bev at Pearls Bar, Morries, Margaret River Brewhouse, Rhum Burgundy and Yonder. In Dunsborough, try Bungalow, Har Bar, Occy’s, Southcamp and Lady Lola. In Busselton, swing past Rocky Ridge, Shelter, The Goose, The Fire Station and Hally’s. In Augusta, head to Augusta Hotel and The Colourpatch.

Don’t forget to arrange a driver to and from your accommodation before hitting town. Check out South West Taxis and other local chauffeurs

Surfers Point

Surfers Point in Prevelly is your go-to for coastal views (read: sunset) and for watching the last surfers of the day catch a wave. The views are amazing, and there are great picnic tables and lawns to enjoy a picnic. Bring your own, grab a takeaway pizza or feed from nearby The Sea Garden Cafe or The Common, or catch the fish and chips food truck every Wed, Thurs, Sat and Sun at Surfers Point.
