Extending 1.841 kilometres over the protected waters of Geographe Bay, the heritage listed Busselton Jetty is the longest wooden-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. As one of the most popular tourist attractions in Western Australia, it is a must see for any visitor to the Margaret River region.
Find one of only six operating Underwater Observatory’s in the world, a solar-powered Jetty Train that takes you across the ocean, an immersive and educational experience within the Marine Discovery Centre, 13 Sculptures submerged on the sea floor creating marine habitat for over 300 species of marine life, and welcoming staff happy to share their local knowledge! At the Busselton Jetty, there is so much to see and do with something to suit everyone all year round.

Board the solar-powered, electric Jetty Train and travel 1.7km to the end of the Jetty to visit the Underwater Observatory. Descend 8 metres to the ocean floor via a spiral staircase to discover an awe-inspiring forest of vividly coloured tropical and sub-tropical corals, sponges, fish and invertebrates. Eleven viewing windows at various levels within the Observatory allow visitors to look out on some of the 300 marine species that live beneath the Jetty. Provision of a lift within the Observatory ensures that this amazing experience is available to those with limited mobility as well as tour translations in 12 other languages available.

While you're at the end of the Jetty make sure you don't miss the new Underwater Sculpture Park that includes 13 Underwater Sculptures made by 12 local Western Australian artists to ultimately form an Artificial Reef and increase marine habitats beneath the Jetty. These new additions to the Diving & Snorkelling experience at the end of the Jetty have already been claimed by an array of vibrant soft and hard corals, and we can't wait to see how they continue to evolve over time! A map of the Underwater Sculpture Park is available outside the Interpretive Centre and it shows all sculpture locations as well as marine life and safety information. Water-proof copies of the map can be purchased from the Interpretive Centre and help to located the sculptures that are scattered over a 200m area.

The brand new Marine Discovery Centre is a new attraction now part of the Busselton Jetty experience. Embark on an immersive and interactive voyage through Australia’s offshore marine parks, including the Geographe Marine Park, the South-west Corner and the Perth Canyon at Busselton Jetty’s Marine Discovery Centre. Imagine being able to come face to face with a great white shark or listen to the sounds of the deep from the perspective of a whale. This new attraction is set to open on 1st July 2024 on the Busselton foreshore. The wheelchair and pram-accessible experience will let us delve into the ecosystems that thrive beneath the waves, from bustling open seas to enigmatic underwater trenches.

There is a wide variety of Underwater Observatory Tours available to visitors including Mermaid Tours, Evening Tours and Virtual Tours depending on the time of year. Make sure to enquire about availability using the contact details above. On your return to shore visit the striking boat-shed style Interpretive Centre that warmly welcomes visitors and provides a relaxed and friendly environment to browse the unique and stylish giftware on display as well as a vast array of souvenirs and mementos.

Good place to visit with kids, for swimming, diving, snorkeling and fishing. There is something to do for everyone. We visited on a sunday and the train was booked out for the next 2hours when we arrived. It's possible to walk on it but if you want to experience the train better Book in advance. The walk is about 20min one way. Better put sunscreen on and have a water bottle with you.

If you are visiting Perth, WA; Busselton Jetty is a must visit. It is the longest jetty in the Southern Hemisphere, 1.871 km long, and there is a train ride to there as well, especially if you are with parents and kids. I recommend arriving earlier in the day and booking in advance if there is an option. Else, you would have to wait up to 2 to 4 hours for your turn. There are ample eateries in case you have to wait. I recommend both The Goose and Shelter, Shelter was our preferred choice. There are toilets when you reach the observatory. I know because I drink a lot of water. 😀 We went walking with two kids, 13 and 7, and both loved the walk. However, we paid $20 to take the train back. So, we experienced both walking and riding the train back. There are two different type of tickets, one that gets you 15 min in observatory and you can walk to and fro and another, that let's you ride the train to and fro and gives you 45 min, including 15 min guided tour. We chose former and still took the train back, so I lived that combination, but the latter is better money and convenience wise, in case you are with elderly or kids who can not walk that much. We loved the observatory as well. There is a quiz on the jetty after frequent intervals that keep you and kids busy if you choose to walk, which I strongly recommend. You can view fishes and the water is very clean. The observatory literally goes 15 mt into the water, and there were people snorkelling as well.

A must go place. The underwater observatory is insightful and beautiful place. Do book your tickets in advance as I needed to revisit again as there wasn't tickets when I went the first time.
