Set above-ground at Ngilgi Cave, Ancient Lands Experience takes visitors on a journey to discover the formation of the region in ancient times. An accessible scenic pathway through the native bushland connects a series of interactive installations, each bringing to life the creation of the land, cave formations, the 60,000 year custodianship of the Wadandi people and the native flora and fauna found in the area.
Arriving at the Ngilgi Cave entrance, visitors can explore the exquisitely decorated cave. Adventurers to its depths will marvel at the caves' stunning stalactites, stalagmites, helictites and beautifully coloured shawls in a self-guided experience. Touring at your own pace, you can gain additional insight and guidance from a guide stationed in the main chamber.

Spectacular experience and we were lucky enough to have the caves to ourselves. Beautiful formations.
Need to watch your head and back in places and not for the claustrophobic. Around 350 stairs to climb up and down, but well worth it.

Don't be put off by the relatively high price of the entry to Ngilgi Caves ($32/adult), they are well worth it. There is a stunning variety of calcite formations, including an abundance of stalactites, stalagmites and columns, and some beautiful examples of shawl formations. Be aware that the cave is quite temperate inside, approximately 22 degrees, and we worked up a sweat while exploring. It's also worth noting that in many places the pathways are quite narrow and low overhead, so be warned if you're not comfortable in confined spaces.

One of the more spectacular caves on "Caves Road". We visited three of the four major cave complexes. The presentation and educational value were exceptional. Staff were very well informed and helpful.
However we underestimated how easy viewing the cave would be. This is a true cave - complete with very narrow, steep passages, uneven narrow stairs and a number of two way bottle necks squeezing by other visitors. Did I feel safe - yes. In my opinion a number of the safety railings are too low to comfortably utilise. I am 190 cm tall and had to stoop significantly to grasp the guide rails in a number of tight areas.
Overall I am very glad we went.
Pictures of some of the passages/steps could be very helpful for visitors to decide whether this undertaking was appropriate for them.

Our guide Ellie was warm and delightful as she explained everything about the cave from the littlest cave straws to the larger formations. To be very honest, coming from somewhere without many caves, I didn’t expect much more than a damp dark claustrophobic space but Lake Cave proved much more than that.
I’d post more photos, but why spoil the surprise? This review might keep you in the dark, but all the more, come and experience this beautiful, unique cave with some friends and family. It’s a perfect hour-long family-friendly experience, with accessible parking.
