Plein Air Paint-Out day
Description
ArtGeo’s Old Courthouse will come alive with colour on Wednesday 20 April from 10am as the members of the local art group Outdoor Arties, meet up to paint the grounds of one of Busselton’s iconic historic locations. If you are artistic or simply curious about en plein air painting, join the members for this free fun morning painting and drawing. Bring your favourite art medium and join in. It may be the beginning of a new love.
The Old Courthouse Bond Store will feature the work of 13 local plein air painters for this month’s exhibition “Under the Southern Sky.” The paintings celebrate small local scenes, captured while painting outside in a few hours.
Plein Air painting was popularized in the 19th century by the likes of Claude Monet and Tom Roberts who made their studios in the open air. Artists learn to deal with changing weather conditions, flies and the distractions of coffee and cake nearby! With the continued discomfort of being inside with other people during COVID, painting outside is making a resurgence in popularity.
Not only is it a challenging style to participate in, it is fascinating to watch for spectators
