Master potter Ian Beniston is known for his lustrous copper red glazes, use of bold colour, texture and clean lines to create timeless works of art and sophisticated tableware.
Working from his Sensei Pots Studio Gallery near Yallingup, Ian has worked as a professional potter and ceramic artist for over 40 years and is highly regarded for the exceptional quality of his craftsmanship. All pieces are wheel-thrown by hand and glazes meticulously developed by Ian in his studio.
Sensei Pots is a quaint gallery set on four acres in the scenic hinterland between Dunsborough and Yallingup. A diverse range of Ian’s work is showcased in the gallery, from large ornamental pieces that serve as captivating focal points, to functional items such as bowls, plates, teapots, serving dishes, vases and more. Ian has created tableware for the critically acclaimed Vasse Felix restaurant since 2014 and local favourite Yarri Restaurant + Bar since 2018.
The gallery looks into Ian’s studio, offering a unique and immersive experience, providing visitors with a glimpse into Ian’s process and the space where each piece is created. At times, visitors may have the opportunity to watch Ian at work on the wheel.
In 2000 Ian was honoured to become a Queen’s Exhibitor upon an invitation to present several of his large forms to Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh during their visit to Western Australia. One piece was chosen to become a permanent addition to the Royal collection.
