One of the great little wineries of Margaret River. Growing under the house flag of a pioneering South West Family, located a stone's throw from the stars of the Wilyabrup Valley lies Cape Grace's carefully tended vineyard from which boutique, handcrafted, basket pressed wines are made.
Cape Grace produces less than 2000 cases of wine.
Cape Grace Wines is family owned and operated by the Karri-Davies, whose family have been part of the South West since 1875. Robert Karri-Davies is a great-grandson of M.C. Davies of Karridale, Timber Baron, builder of the Leeuwin Lighthouse and instrumental in the founding of Magaret River.
In 1996 Robert and Karen Karri-Davies planted their 15-acre vineyard on the headwaters of the Willyabrup Valley. Just five years later, Cape Grace became a Trophy Winner at the 24th Annual Sheraton Wine Awards for its 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon. With their unique character, depth and style, the wines from this great little winery have continued to receive acclaim - receiving three trophies, and 165 medals and numerous glowing reviews.
The selection of wine includes: A dry refreshing Chenin Blanc, a complex wood aged Chardonnay, and a delicious Cane Cut Chenin Blanc Dessert Wine . All the red wines are hand plunged and basket pressed and include Cabernet Franc, a luscious Cabernet Shiraz, an elegant medium bodied Shiraz, and our flagship Cabernet Sauvignon.
These single vineyard wines display a unique sense of place and are only available in the Cellar Door, which is open daily. Here you will meet either Karen or Robert and gain some insight into the trials and joys of being a small winemaker. Visitors stroll through the barrel room, prior to entering the tasting area. Incorporated into the Cellar Door is a Photographic Gallery. Depending on the time of year visitors may see some action in the winery. If time is available a tour of the winery can be arranged and the winemaking process explained. Outside, adjacent to the Cellar Door, is Roberts private collection of Australian parrots in a natural bush setting.
Don't miss one of the great little wineries on your visit to Margaret River and put Cape Grace on your list to visit.
