Let your imagination guide and your heart connect... Every place (no matter how small) has 'understories' - secrets, songs, dreams - that help us connect with the 'spirit of place'. This connection enriches our sense of self and our sense of belonging. The Understory sculpture walk trail is the first purpose built walk trail within Australia to permanently feature specially commissioned artworks from a range of different art forms.
Sculpture, music and writing have been commissioned from nationally and internationally renowned creative personnel to reflect the social, cultural and environmental heritage of the Southern Forests region. The 1.2 km walk circuit showcases the awe-inspiring Karri, Jarrah and Marri forest of the Northcliffe Forest Park.

Permanent and ephemeral (temporary) sculptures are located at varying intervals along the trail, with poetry, prose, storytelling, photography and music appearing in associated publications and audio tours.

The Sculpture Walk commences from the Northcliffe Information and Visitor Centre. Entry fees include a range of five different audio tours and a comprehensive Trail Guide.

The Sculpture Walk is open Daily 10.00am - 4.00pm, last entry 3pm.

Our visit to Understory Art and Nature Trail was an absolute delight! As a family with a curious 2-year-old daughter, we were thrilled by the interactive art pieces scattered throughout the trail. Each exhibit seemed to spark her imagination, and watching her engage with the artwork was truly heartwarming. The trail itself was well-maintained and provided a perfect blend of nature and creativity. We highly recommend this trail to families looking for a unique and enriching outdoor experience!

I will be honest, I was not expecting to like this as much as I did. Some really interesting pieces of work. It was $45 for a 30 bush walk for the family (2 adults and 3 kids). Seemed a little pricey initially but felt worth it by the end.

This place is so interesting and full with beautiful art that compliments life in the forest. The walk is easy and you are provided with a map with all art pieces and nature facts, as well as a collection of soft music and a podcast about the walk which is cool!

Excellent sculpture and nature trail. The booklet (treasure map) has details on all the sculptures and nature along the way. Really well laid out, community contributions, and very well worth a visit.
