It wasn’t that long ago that road cycling in the Margaret River Region was only done by a few locals who had discovered how blissfully quiet, picturesque and fun the rolling country back roads can be.
Fast forward to today and on any given morning, on any given road, you may come across professional road racing teams on training camps to fully loaded touring bikes part way through an epic journey. This little corner of Western Australia is no longer slipping under the radar of road cyclists looking for somewhere new to explore, train or race.
The fantastic roads and scenery aren’t the only thing bringing road cyclists to the region. As most cyclists would know, coffee and cycling go together like popcorn at the movies. In the Margaret River Region, including Busselton, Dunsborough and Cowaramup you are absolutely spoilt for choice when it comes to getting your pre or post ride caffeine fix. The standard for coffee in the region, like all the food and produce, is sky high.
You can join a group ride or go your own way a follow one of the many road cycling trails. Be here in November for the Tour of Margaret River, the the largest staged road cycling race for teams in Australia.
So next time you’re thinking of coming to the region for the amazing wine, food, beaches, forests or events, think about packing the bike too, you won’t be disappointed.
